Hawker Hurricane Mk IIb trop fighter-bomber aeroplane
Hawker Hurricane Mk IIb trop is an adaptation of the famous fighter-bomber aircraft designed to operate in difficult climates. Despite the name, "tropical" Hurricanes were used not only over jungles and deserts but also in the Soviet Arctic.
Popularly called the "Hurribomber", Hurricane Mk IIb is a development of the famous fighter designed by Sydney Camm, equipped with a more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine with a two-stage supercharger and additional 4 machine guns in the wings (12 in total). This significantly improved the aircraft's performance, but the small-caliber armament was already insufficient at this stage of the war, so most Hurricanes of this version were used as bombing planes. In the USSR, they were further improved by installing larger caliber weapons.
Over time, it turned out that the plane loaded with additional weapons, despite a more powerful engine, no longer met the requirements for modern fighters. Together with the cannon-armed Hurricane Mk IIc, these aircraft were used to attack ground targets with gunfire and bombing. Thanks to installing a dust filter, the "trop" version was also created, intended for operations in difficult climates. Mk IIb and c aircraft equipped in this way took an effective part in combat in Africa, the Far East and the Soviet Arctic. A naval version with an arrester hook for landing on aircraft carriers was also created.

Saab AJ-37 Viggen ‘Show Must Go On’ The Saab 37 Viggen was an aaircraft ahead of its time. Its designers used an unorthodox construction which enabled the plane to meet all requirements laid om it and in some parameters even surpass these. The Swedish Air Force placed order for several versions of the Viggen, its basic design formed an universal platform which, using specialised equipment, enabled the plane to be used for various roles. The aircraft was powered by a Volvo RM8 turbofan, licence-built varian of the Pratt and Whitney JT8D with added afterburner and thrust-reverser unit, which in additio to the double-delta wing design enhanced the aircraft's performance on take offs and landings on short airstrips. For better handling with the Viggen on makeshift airfields, while towing them to their hangars or even to conceal them easily, the fin could be folded. At the time, the avionics used in the Viggen was among the best in the world and the VIggen was also the very first aircraft with avionics equipped with integrated circuits. At first, the Swedish military received the AJ 37 version, gradually followed by the SK 37 two seat trainer, SF 37 – reconnaissance aircraft with cameras in the modified nose section, the SH 37 anti-shipping version with different avionics and able to carry air-to-sea armament. About ten years after the first Viggens had entered the service, the second generation airframes followed in the form of the JA 37 fighter. The first of Viggens to serve in the ground attack role was the AJ 37 Viggen, later modified to the AJS 37 Viggen. One of these was painted in red overall anniversary scheme, plenty of white spook figures and was named “Show Must Go On”. This highly attractive plane is now depicted in our latest Viggen release.

Republic F-84F Thunderstreak ‘Reborn Luftwaffe’ The F-84F Thunderstreak swept-wing jet fighter was a development of the Republic F-84G straight wing aircraft. Using a wing with the sweep along with a more powerful jet engine improved the performance to that of the F-86 Sabre. At first, the F-84F experienced several trouble with their power units, manoeuvrability as well as with corrosion. Later, after the outbreak of the Berlin Crisis and subsequent need to make the NATO forces more powerful, the F-84F jets started to equip many NATO air forces, including that of Germany and France, while earlier these planes were used mainly by the USAF and US Guard units. The first combat deployment the F-84F saw was during the Suez Crisis and the only air victories gained by the type were acieved by Turkish machines taking on Iraqi Il-28 bombers violating the Turkish air space.
The German Luftwaffe acquired 450 Thunderstreaks and operated the aircraft within NATO between 1957 and 1966 when the remaining airframes were sold to Greece and Turkey. Two of the German jets crashed due to loss of orientation on Czechoslovak territory, their pilots managed to eject in time. Each of the SH72505 model kit contains a tiny piece of those two wrecked airframes along with a certificate. The decal sheet caters for the markings of four Luftwaffe machines, one of which was the one crashed in Czechoslovakia.
- a trully excellent model, very easily to be assembled
- large decal sheet containing all the servicing stencils
- interesting camouflage schemes

RE-RELEASED! 'Biber' German Midget Submarine / kleinkampfbände Biber The Biber was one of the weapon systems developed during the Second World War at the time when the situation on both fronts was gradually becoming worse and worse for Germany. In 1943 it became clear that the Allied invasion would take place soon somewhere on the Atlantic coast of the continent and the German military began to seek and develop new and rather unorthodox weapons to avert the invasion. Along the Neger, Marder and Hai manned torpedoes, also the Biber and Molch midget submarines were to stop the invasion fleet.
The original idea of the Biber sub came from Korvettenkapitän Robert Bartels and first prototypes were built and the production took place at Flanderwerke in Lübeck, the development being led by Hermann Bunte. Allegedly, Bartels was influenced by captured British Welman W46 midget sub. The Biber's displacement was 6.6 tonnes, on the surface it was powered by a 32 HP Otto Blitz petrol engine and while submerged, the propulsion was provided by a Siemens SSW GL231 electric motor. The Biber could submerge down to 20m, in emergency to 30m. It could carry either two G7e torpedoes or mines. The hull was so diminutive that its operator (only a crew of one was possible) did not have much space in the conning tower.
The Biber prototype, known also as Adam, was put to tests on 29 March 1944, though the tests were not quite successful and several improvements had to be implemented before German admiral Karl Dönitz approved building of further four prototype Bibers and later also the large scale production, which gave a total of 324 Bibers from Flanderwerke, Ansaldo and KLökner-Humbolt-Deutz plants.
Bibers were put into so-called K-flottillen numbered 1 to 9, which saw action in the English Channel during the Allied invasion, in the North Sea off Norway, in the Scheldt estuary and also in the river Waal during the attack on the Nijmegen bridge. Bibers did not enjoy much success in the torpedo-carrying role, mine-laying missions suited them better. Some trouble also occured due to the exhaust fumes getting into the operator's station and many Bibers were lost just to this reason. The conning tower lacked in height causing the submarine pilot, who was equipped only with wrist compass, difficulties in finding his way to the target. Moreover, the Biber although being rather manoeuvrable and stable on the surface, was clumsy while under the water. Several Biber submarines were captured during the war, but the Allies did not seem to find interest in them and tested them only very briefly. Some of the surviving machines have been put to display in museums.
The kit is 3D designed and injection moulded using metal moulding blocks. The kit's components come on two grey styrene sprues and one with clear parts. The A sprue offers the fuselage halves, B sprue has the torpedoes. The decal sheet brings markings for four overall grey Bibers and one bearing a camouflage scheme consisting of four colours. The latter and also one grey Biber were also decorated with a shark mouth. The rest of the machines in the kit have only numbers on the tower. (Special Hobby sold out November 2023)

Dassault-Mirage F1 by Andy Evans 60 pages
During the 1960s, Dassault commenced development of what would be-come the Mirage F1 as a private venture, alongside the larger Mirage F2. Work on the F1 eventually took precedence over the more costly F2, which was cancelled during the late 1960s. The Armée de l'Air took great interest in the fledgling F1 to meet its requirement for an all-weather interceptor aircraft. The Mirage F1 was of similar size to the Mirage III and Mirage 5 and was powered by the same SNECMA Atar engine that had been used on the larger Dassault Mirage IV, however, unlike its predecessors, it had the layout of a swept wing, but mounted high on the fuselage, and a conventional tail sur-face as used by the F2. Although it had a smaller wingspan than the Mirage III, the Mirage F1 nevertheless proved to be superior to its predecessor, carrying more fuel while possessing a shorter take-off run and greater manoeuvrability. This latest addition to the Warpaint series includes all the usual reference and historical material that has made the series the go-to source for modellers and aviation enthusiasts alike. This book is written by Andy Evans and is superbly illustrated by Sam Pearson.

Re-released! Westland Whirlwind Mk.I 'Fighter Bomber' Not long before the outbreak of WW2, the British Air Ministry issued a requirement calling for two types of fighter aircraft, one light weight with machine gun armament and the other one with heavy cannon armament. To these requirements, the machine gun armed Hurricanes and Spitfires were designed, while to fit the second category, the Westland offered their Whirlwind twin engined ‘Cannon Fighter’. This type was eventually produced in more than a hundred examples and further production was ceased only by the shortage of the Peregrine power units. The Whirlwinds were deployed over the English Channel in fighter and ground attack missions. For the latter ones, the Whirlwinds were fitted with bomb racks and were designated FB Mk.I. It was not until 1944 that the Whirlwinds were replaced by Typhoons.
Our model of the Whirlwind fighter bomber comes on two styrene sprues with one of the clear canopy parts. The model kit also contains resin cast detail parts and etches. The decal sheet offers markings for four colour schemes, two of which of the earlier green and earth camouflage and the other two in the later scheme consisting of green and grey. The latter ones are now improved compared to the earlier release.

The General Dynamics EF-111 Raven was developed on the aerodynamic platform of the ground-attack aircraft F-111 Aardvark. The supersonic aircraft, featuring variable-geometry wings, was identified as a suitable platform to accommodate the electronic components necessary to effectively perform the new assigned tasks. The EF-111 Raven thus became a benchmark for Electronic Warfare missions, being employed in various operational activities in Libya, Bosnia, and Iraq. Easily recognizable by the prominent protrusion on the rear fin, it was equipped with state-of-the-art electronics for its time, including terrain-mapping radar and the adoption of radar jamming systems and electronic countermeasures. The cockpit was also redesigned with the installation of a control suite specifically configured for the Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO), the officer specializing in electronic warfare.

Bristol Bulldog Mk.II
New Tooling
(Due April 2024)
A gleaming silver steed flown by the most capable and intrepid young men Britain could call upon, the Bristol Bulldog was one of the most important British aircraft of the inter-war period, when powerful biplane fighters unquestionably ruled the skies. Initially developed as a private venture by the Bristol Aeroplane Company, the Bulldog was the brainchild of accomplished aircraft designer Frank Barnwell, the man behind the successful Bristol F2B Fighter of the Great War, and was a light, all-metal and fabric-covered fighter, powered by a 440hp Bristol Jupiter engine.
The Bulldog was armed with a pair of forward-firing Vickers 0.303" machine guns mounted on either side of the cockpit, but ultimately never fired its guns in anger during a relatively short seven-year period serving with Fighter Command. Although it was the most capable fighter of the day, the Bulldog was more closely associated with challenging formation flying and spectacular aerobatics, with the Royal Air Force thrilling huge crowds at airshows and pageants around the country, as they demonstrated the effectiveness of a modernising air force.
What the Bulldog did do was help advance Britain's aviation industry towards the production of the sleek, monoplane fighters which would contest the Second World War, as it highlighted the fact that biplane designs were fast approaching their zenith. Perhaps the most famous incident involving a Bristol Bulldog proved to be a rather unfortunate one, when an accomplished, but rather headstrong RAF pilot performed unauthorised low-altitude aerobatics for a group of onlookers and a private civilian aerodrome in Berkshire.
Flying so low that the wingtip of his fighter struck the ground during a manoeuvre, the Bulldog cartwheeled across the airfield, inflicting catastrophic injuries on the pilot - that pilot was future Second World War RAF ace and inspirational national hero Douglas Bader.

Messerschmitt Bf-109E-4 A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Warplane Design! Please see the pictures!
Dragon Models is proud to announce a revolutionary new project that’s 10 years in the making! The first item of Dragon’s new Wing Tech 2 series, the 1/48 Bf109E-4N boasts multiple engineering breakthroughs never seen before in Warplane model kits.
Developed over ten years using meticulous research and working together with the industry’s top plastic mould engineers to fine-tune our tooling technology, Dragon has achieved the first ever one-piece fuselage that will set the new standard in modelling! Prepare for a new age in Air Superiority!
Overview of the Kit sprues including the revolutionary one-piece fuselage and Dragon’s first ever offering with multi-colored parts.
One-Piece Fuselage
Traditionally, the fuselage is presented in two halves, which are glued together. Then, additional puttying and sanding are needed to eliminate the gap lines. However, this process can be time consuming and can produce negative results such as sanding off the details on the fuselage.
Dragon’s breakthrough engineering eliminates this problem by using multi-direction slide-moulds to produce the fuselage in one single piece.
Additional Key Features:
Complete Engine reproduced in accurate detail
Wings plug directly into the one-piece fuselage for better stability during assembly. State of the art engineering ensures quick and simple assembly without compromising the detail and quality of the model kit.
Wing joints are cleverly hidden beneath the curved leading edge of the upper wing to reduce the need for puttying and sanding. The result is a perfect-looking wing that can be built without additional time-consuming work.
Unrivalled detail on the engine and inside the cockpit. Also included are Dragon’s one-piece canopy
Our Wing Tech 2 series is a part of Dragon’s Engineering Revolution 2.0, in which our items are developed with the modellers in mind. For many years, Dragon has continually raised the bar in providing the highest detailed model kit products in the market. However, the higher level of detail comes at a cost, which is more parts, more assembly, and longer build times.
Keeping that in mind, our latest series utilizes the industry’s most sophisticated moulding techniques ever and simplifies the building process without compromising the details that Dragon is famous for. The result is a next generation model kit that has the highest level of details and accuracy, yet easier and less time consuming to build!
